BUDO RYU KAI
AUTHENTIC NINJUTSU & BUJUTSU
HISTORY OF BUDO RYU NINJUTSU KEIKO
The Budo Ryu Kai teaches a martial art called Budo Ryu Ninjutsu which was developed in 2004 by Soke Anshu Christa Jacobson from her personal research, training and experience. She wanted to bring back the traditional training of authentic ninjusu and classical samurai bujutsu; something that she felt had been lost in the modern world. So she established the Budo Ryu Kai, meaning School of the Warrior Way.
Budo Ryu Ninjutsu is Soke Anshu Christa Jacobson's modern approach towards the study of ancient samurai & ninja warfare. When developing the Budo Ryu Ninjutsu training methods she established the Budo Ryu Goho-no-Keiko (five areas of Budo Ryu training) to develop the most comprehensive and complete method of historical ninjutsu and samurai bujutsu training.
BUDO RYU KAI GOHO-NO-KEIKO
The Budo Ryu Goho-no-Keiko are the five areas of Budo Ryu Ninjutsu training) Each of these five areas has an elemental association as well as seven sublevels of training. The five areas of the Goho-no-Keiko are:
(1) Nana Musha-den (七武者伝): meaning: “seven warrior traditions”. This section of keiko covers all aspects: kata, waza, kuden, hiden, history and tradition of the seven warrior traditions within the Budo Ryu Kai.
(2) Gendai Henka Waza (現代変化技): meaning: “modern variation techniques”. This is taking the historical kata of the nan musha-den to update / adapt the techniques, principals and philosophies to fit the modern era that we live.
(3) Hojo Undo (補助運動): meaning: "supplementary exercises". This section of keiko understands that higher consciousness comes through harder impact, meaning, the tougher your body, the sharper your mind. This includes areas such as cardiovascular and strength conditioning, skin and bone conditioning, grappling, sparring as well as kumite and randori.
(4) Seishin Teki Kyoyo (精神的教養): meaning: "spiritual refinement”. This section of keiko contains the training of the mental and spiritual aspects of koryu bujutsu. This includes areas such as kuden, kuji-in, kuji-kiri, mikkyo, esoteric magick, meditation, relaxation and mental clarity. This also includes the study and understanding of chakra.
(5) Nihon Musha-kyuu (日本武者究): meaning: “researching the Japanese warrior”. It is very well known that Soke Anshu collects ancient samurai and ninja scrolls / densho and shares them with her students. In this section of keiko the students will study from authentic historical sources that are outside of the seven warrior traditions of the school that she has obtained for her personal collection. A few common historical sources that are deeply used within the Budo Ryu Kai are: Bansenshukai, Ninpiden and Shoninki. This section is also where the students can learn about traditional Japanese art & culture.
It is important to understand that all five areas of Budo Ryu Ninjutsu have an elemental association: Earth (地; chi), Water (水; sui), Fire (火; ka), Wind (風; fu) and Void (空; ku) towards training. To maintain balance, each of the five levels is equally 20% of the training curriculum and includes seven sublevels of training within. Below is a breakdown of the seven sublevels of training within each of the Goho-no-Keiko.
